Training & Conference Details

The Delegates

Delegates are participants who represent the viewpoints of assigned countries, organizations, or individuals. They engage in debates, draft resolutions, and collaborate with other delegates to address global issues, following procedures modeled after those of the United Nations, European Union, Arab league, or Good Governance.

LAUSM delegates can be High School or Middle School students with languages of instruction being English, Arabic, or French. This depends on the programs being offered - please check "The 4 Leadership Programs" for more information.

The Advisors

Advisors are typically teachers, mentors, or experienced previous LAUSM participants who guide and support the delegates. They help with preparation, offer strategic advice, and ensure that the delegates understand the rules and procedures of the conference. Advisors do not participate directly in the debates but provide behind-the-scenes assistance to ensure the delegates perform effectively.

LAUSM Advisors receive the opportunity to join a series special Professional Development Workshops while their delegates are attending their sessions. Upon completion of the required sessions, advisors receive a workshop completion certificate.

Registration Modes

The registration process can vary between individual and delegation registrations:

  • Individual Registration: This is when a single participant registers independently to attend the conference. They represent a country, organization, or individual on their own and participate in the training sessions, debates, and activities without being part of a larger team from a specific institution.
  • Delegation Registration: This involves a group of participants from the same school, or organization registering together as a team. Each member of the delegation represents the country or positions assigned to the delegation within the conference. The delegation is usually led by one or more advisors who assist and oversee the group.

Sessions & Conference Locations

LAUSM hosts its simulation model training sessions, typically on its campuses. LAU has two main campuses:

  1. Beirut Campus: Located in the capital city of Beirut, this campus often serves as a venue for various academic and extracurricular activities, including LAUSM training sessions and conferences.
  2. Byblos Campus: Situated in Byblos, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, this campus also hosts numerous events and training sessions.

Upon registration, participants can select their campus of preference for training session attendance. Final Conference Locations are determined based on program of joining and not based on initial preference selection.

Fees & Payment

LAUSM participation and conference fees are published upon the release of the Annual LAUSM Handbook (above). These fees cover Training Sessions, Mock Simulation, Delegate Training Material Access, Virtual ID Card, Virtual Profiles, Conference Preparation Material (Background Guides), Delegate Placards, Certificate of Participation, and any additional extra curricular - if launched.

N.B All participants from Lebanese Public Schools (Officially Registered with that Status at the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education) are exempt from the LAUSM registration fees.

Attendance & Modality

LAUSM typically and unless otherwise officially announced operates under a 100% In-Person program.

  • In-Person: Traditionally, LAUSM trainings and conferences are held in person, allowing delegates to engage in face-to-face debates, discussions, and networking. These events are typically hosted on LAU's Beirut or Byblos campuses. Attendance criteria and specific completion requirements are published in the the LAUSM Registration and Regulation Guide (RRG)

In exceptional circumstances, force majeures, or where deemed necessary, LAUSM may adopt other modalities.

  • Virtual: In response to circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, LAU has also adopted virtual modalities. Online conferences are conducted via digital platforms, enabling remote participation while maintaining the structure and format of traditional MUN events.
  • Hybrid: Some events may use a hybrid model, combining both in-person and virtual participation. This approach provides flexibility, accommodating delegates who cannot attend in person.
